Hi. I was chatting with a Mormon missionary and he said that Mormons are Christians, but also spoke of other Christians as mainstream Christianity. What makes your religion not mainstream?

There are a few reasons that others regard us as not mainstream. Mostly because we don't believe in the trinity, or that the Bible is the complete word of God.

I don't know what you mean by the trinity. You don't believe In God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost? What is missing form the Bible?

We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in his Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost, but we don't believe that they are one person with three different parts, we believe they are separate beings who work together for one purpose.

You misunderstand the trinity. They are always painted as three separate beings, you are quibbling over semantics.

Through translation errors or concious omittions many aspects of the plan of salvation are not clear in the bible, and the reasons behind Adam and Eve's fall are not explained, there are other things which often confuse people. However, saying that the bible is not the whole word of God, doesn't neccesarily mean you think things are missing from it. It just means we believe that God talks to everyone in the world, and they are bound to have written some of it down. It also means that God still speaks to man today through the spirit and through prophets. (a brief summary, but there is more if you want more)

I am sorry you feel that way. Confusion is part of all religions, Mormonism included. I sorry someone confused you to think mainstream Christians think God doesn't talk to everyone in the world. It sounds like Mormon missionaries have a false concept of mainstream Christians. So are you saying you are mainstream Christians?

I know mainstream Christianity believes God still speaks to everyone around the world. They just don't believe in living prohets and other Books of scripture (for the most part).
I suppose, as we believe we are the restored Church of Jesus Christ on the Earth today, that I am saying we are mainstream.

Oh? What part of mainstream Christianity are you from, because most people I talk to object to us on those very grounds. Have you read the 13 articles of faith?

Sorry, that was a little uncalled for, I'm just interested to hear what you believe. I think the root of my feelings is that people shout that we are heritics and they hope we burn in hell when they see the name of the church on our badges.
