Moroni 8: Parental Age To Be Baptized

Updated: Jul 7, 2019

Morgan 5:33 AM

Is the Book of Mormon necessary in order to come closer to Christ?

Now chatting with: Aria and Jaisa

Aria 5:39 AM

Hello Morgan! Sorry for the slow response. What do you mean by coming closer to Christ?

Aria 5:39 AM

(this is Aria and Jaisa, by the way)

Morgan 5:40 AM

I mean it the same as you mean it.

Aria 5:40 AM

The Book of Mormon is a fantastic way to come closer to Jesus Christ. It speaks of him on almost every page and talks more about his purpose and sacrifice than even the new testament

Aria 5:41 AM

So, yes, it is a wonderful way to come closer to Christ

Morgan 5:42 AM

OK, so it is not necessary, just another way.

Aria 5:43 AM

Yes, the Book of Mormon, itself is not necessary for someone to come to know Jesus Christ. But, we believe that it does clarify how Baptism--which is necessary for salvation-- is to be done

Morgan 5:44 AM

Yes it does. Moroni 8 makes it clear that only those of parental age need to be baptized.

Morgan 5:45 AM

Like Jesus set the example himself. Jesus did not get baptized when he was 12, but when he was 30. Moroni 8 clarifies that for us.

Aria 5:46 AM

Yes. I'm guessing you've read the Book before? Are you a member of the Church?

Morgan 5:47 AM

I am a Christian, so I am a member of Christ's Church

Aria 5:47 AM

That is great! I'm so glad you have that belief. :) What makes you interested in the Book of Mormon?

Morgan 5:49 AM

You answered my questions. It is not necessary, but it does clarify for us that 8 year-old baptism are not necessary, helping us come closer to Christ.

Aria 5:50 AM

No, it does not clarify that 8 year-old baptism is not necessary. It clarifies that Baptism must be done by immersion and also that infants should not be baptized.

Morgan 5:51 AM

I am not here to argue with you, only invite you to come closer to Christ. I invite you to read

Moroni 8 and how it clarifies that baptism is for those of parental age and not children.

Aria 5:56 AM

Anything else I can help you with?

Morgan 5:58 AM

Will you take the time to read Moroni 8, ponder it and ask God with sincerity and real intent if those things are not true that Moroni 8 says about children being baptized and parental age? If you do so with sincerity and real intent, I know God will answer you.

Aria 5:59 AM

I already have done research and looked at the question of baptizing 8 year-olds. Have a good day sir!

Aria The chat session has ended.

Brandon 6:14 PM

Hi

Now chatting with: Maile

Maile 6:15 PM

Hi brandon! My name is Maile. How can I help?

Brandon 6:15 PM

I prayed with sincerity and real intent and got a different answer. Does the Spirit give different answers to different people?

Maile 6:16 PM

What exactly are you referring to?

Brandon 6:18 PM

To many questions regarding the gospel. For example, only those of parental age should be baptized, not 8 year olds. The Book of Mormon clearly says this is a mockery to God.

Maile 6:18 PM

Can you reference where that is at for me?

Brandon 6:19 PM

Can you answer the question please. The question is does the Spirit give different answers to different people?

Maile 6:22 PM

There is a promise given in Moroni 10:4. It says we have to do 3 things on our part in order for God to "manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy ghost". It says "...if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ". When we have a sincere heart, real intent, and faith, the spirit will answer us. If we don't have all 3 of those things, the spirit may not answer us.

Brandon 6:23 PM

I not asking about the Spirit not answering. I asking about the Spirit giving different answers.

Maile 6:23 PM

When we ask questions that way, the spirit is going to answer us and manifest the truth. But, it's important to have all 3 components when asking. There is a big difference between your personal thoughts and desires and the spirit prompting you and telling you what is correct. The spirit is constant.

Maile 6:27 PM

God is the same yesterday, today and forever. The spirit is the same.

Brandon 6:27 PM

The Spirit is the same, but people are different. The Law of Moses for a specific people in a place and time. So it is not scriptural to say the same religion is for everybody and every moment in time. We all have unique circumstances

Maile 6:28 PM

True, but the spirit isn't going to testify to someone that God loves them and then the next person that God isn't aware of them.

Brandon 6:30 PM

I agree that is highly unlikely, but I am not so arrogant to speak for the Spirit.

Brandon 6:34 PM

So, what I am hearing is that Mormons were raise to think 8 year old baptisms are OK, are just applying their personal thoughts and desires for the upbringing to be right and they have not pray with sincerity and real intent, etc, like I have. According to your 6:23 post.

Maile 6:35 PM

I'm not here to argue, and I think you may be misinterpreting. we have been given the gift of choice here on earth, and that is something we get to use in every aspect of our lives. If a child doesn't want to get baptized at 8, they don't have to. They too, are encouraged and asked if being baptized is something they want to do for themselves.

Brandon 6:38 PM

That is great, I am not here to argue either. It is not realistic to think an 8 year old has a choice. Most Mormons have testify they did not understand what baptism meant at 8. They thought it was asking to be part of the family or something. Most famous Mormons have testified that it was not until the early teens they had a "testimony". So on no leave of rationality or Spirit is it serious to suggest that an 8 year has a choice.

Maile 6:40 PM

No matter the age in baptism, I don't think you realize the impact it will have in your life and the relationship you will gain with Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. I was baptized at 8 years old, and I felt like it was the right thing to do for me at that time. It made me happy to talk about it with others. Since then, yes, my testimony has grown more than I could have ever imagined at the age of 8 years old. But, isn't that what life is all about? Growing, learning and having experience that help shape us into who God wants us to become.

Brandon 6:44 PM

Good for you, but your experience is very different for other people. Which was the original question. It sounds like you did not disagree that an 8 year old does not have a realistic choice in the matter.

Maile ended the chat.
