Priesthood Holder Who Confirmed Jesus?

Now chatting with: Kennedy

Kennedy12:38 PM

Hi Heidi how are you?

Heidi12:42 PM

I am well. I was reading on the website about baptism being for the remission of sins, though Jesus was sinless it would have been a sin for Him not to get baptized and he needed to get baptized by someone with authority. John the Baptist was from the tribe of Levi and therefore had Aaronic priesthood and authority to baptize. Is that correct?

Kennedy12:42 PM

Yes that's correct!

Heidi12:43 PM

Who was the Melchizedek priesthood holder that gave Jesus the confirmation of the Holy Ghost in order to fulfill all righteousness?

Kennedy12:50 PM

it was God

Heidi12:50 PM

Could God have baptized Jesus then?

Kennedy12:51 PM

He could have, yes

Heidi12:51 PM

So God could baptize any of us then.

Heidi12:51 PM

Do you have this priesthood?

Kennedy12:52 PM

He could. No, only men hold the priesthood

Heidi12:55 PM

Oh. Jesus is usually referred to as THE anointed one, Messiah in his language and Christ in Greek I think. Anointing was and is a not uncommon practice, hence THE anointed one. Anointing is usually considered to be done by a priest. Scholars debate when the anointing occurred, it was either Mary of Bethany or wrapping of this dead body. Either way it was a woman. But you say women do not have priesthood?

Kennedy12:59 PM

Anointing has more than one definition. The anointed one, or the chosen one. Anointing done in ceremonies, usually by priesthood holders. Anointing, as in mary used oils to wrap the Savior's body to help preserve it

Heidi1:01 PM

So the priesthood holder that anointed Jesus, making Him the chosen one, was also God, and not the women. Oh, ok. So when ever a person feels the Spirit's inspiration to get baptized and confirmed they can do so with proper priesthood authority with God, who is also present, no need to go to the Mormons for the priesthood. Got it, thanks!

Kennedy1:03 PM

God chose Jesus Christ to come to the earth and be the Savior. God could baptize us technically, because it is His power, so He has that authority, but it is impossible for us to be in the presence of God as mortal beings. Which is why God has given his power to people on the earth. So we do still need to have a worthy priesthood holder baptize us. Does that make sense?

Heidi1:04 PM

Wasn't Joseph Smith in the presence of God?

Kennedy1:06 PM

Yes he was :) good catch! It's not impossible, but certain things have to happen in order for man to see God, and that doesn't happen with everyone. It would also not make sense for God to have to perform every baptism that happens on the earth. So the Priesthood helps men carry out those ceremonies in the place of God

Heidi1:07 PM

What has to happen in order for a person to see God?

Kennedy1:08 PM

Honestly I'm not sure. That's all up to God

Heidi1:17 PM

To be honest Kennedy, none of it makes sense.

Kennedy1:18 PM

I'm sorry it doesn't make sense. I know that we have a limited knowledge compares to God, but he has all of the knowledge, and so I know as I rely on him i'll be just fine and I know that's true for everyone else too! I want to invite you to pray and ask God what his will is for you, and I know that He will speak to you, through the Holy Ghost, and I know that will help you

Heidi1:21 PM

I have pray ask God and he has told any Christian congregation is fine. God wants you to be Mormon for now to go heaven, but not everyone

Kennedy1:22 PM

I'm not here to convert everyone i meet to the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. I'm here to help those that want to.

Heidi1:24 PM

That is cool.
